The I3S symposium will include an afternoon session that shall constitute a Civil Society event of the World Summit On the Information Society ( WSIS ) which is a summit of the United Nations.

The event will deal with the general issue of scientific publishing, Open Access and Free Access to knowledge. A presentation is going to made by the chairman (Dr. F. Muguet ) of the Civil Society Working Group (WG-SI) dealing with Scientific Information. Dr. Shu-Kun Lin, director of Molecular Diversity Preservation International ( MDPI), currently publishing five Open Access journals, is going to make presentation of MDPI activities. Other presentations are under consideration. Presentations will be followed by discussions.
